Overview
The ISSC RCO-IG will organize outreach activity to the broad Rubin Observatory LSST science community with the goal of providing guidance on sound data science practices, via educational and training resources, consultation, and via methods-focused presentations of exemplary data science research for LSST.
Activities and resources overseen by RCO-IG will cover both basic topics that are often incompletely understood, and advanced topics that typically are not covered in astronomer/physicist education. Potential activities include a methodology webinar series, a curated blog (perhaps on the ISSC website, perhaps with discussion hosted in the Rubin Community), RSP-based tutorial notebooks, and tech notes.
For persistent resources, a goal would be to provide resources that are curated/vetted by experts. Part of the activity would be directed to information scientists who are new to astronomy, to help them understand astronomical, astrophysical, and cosmological problems, the nature of Rubin data, and how to use the RSP.
